JAGTAR SINGH OBE,MSc, BA Hons, MIFire
A vastly experienced management executive with a wide range of experience and knowledge gained over 30 years in two fire authorities with 18 months in Whitehall and more recently almost ten years as a chairman and a non executive director in the health service and consultant on equality and diversity issues. A director who has made a significant contribution at local and national level on equality issues being award the OBE in 2004 for equality and diversity and man of the year in 2003 by Lloyds bank. Jagtar has significant experience as a director who has held responsibilities for corporate services, HR, performance management, Finance, Procurement and Equality and Diversity. Jagtar has first class strategic, analytical, problem solving and communication skills. A proven leader; experienced in managing, motivating, and developing teams to achieve their objectives, and in developing and delivering strategic policy, budgets and partnerships. Jagtar is a sought after experienced trainer with experience of presenting at national and international events.
On retiring from the Fire Service in October 2006 and shortly after returning from working in Whitehall with the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) Jagtar Singh set up Associates Ltd. The company has quickly established a reputation for delivering high quality HR policy support, training, conference, workshop and innovative research. JSA ltd has worked on contracts for Department for Communities and Local Government, The Department for Health, NHS Trust, Fire Services in the UK, South West Strategic Health Authority, Ambulance Trusts ,the Local Government Associating and the Police Association Authorities. In 2006 Jagtar was selected to be a non executive director for the East of England Ambulance Service a post which Jagtar gave up in 2009 due to the success of consultancy work with other Ambulance Trust and took up a NED post with Luton and Dunstable Hospital in October 2009. Jagtar is also a regular contributor to a national magazine on equality issues.
Jagtar has delivered major projects with the Department for Communities and Local Government two examples are a report on the Business Case for diversity for the Fire and Rescue Service, and a European project that is able to deliver a national approach to equality and diversity training all FRS staff, strategic board development workshops for Fire and Rescue services and Ambulance Trusts.
Jagtar has delivered national training on managing diversity, developing BME support groups, Board devlopment and more generally on equality impacts assessment to a wide range of organisations. I have supported Essex County Fire and Rescue Service to deliver an Equality and Diversity week and a diversity month. Jagtar has also delivered keynote addresses in Australia and the USA on equality
Current Major Achievements
Since leaving the fire service to set up an independent consultancy and taking up a role as chairman and as a non-executive director Jagtar has:
- Led on the changing the culture and legal compliance on E&D in three Trust.
- been selected to be vice chair to the national Leadership Forum for NHS employers
- Selected to be an advisor on E&D to the Appointments Commission, advisor to BME ambulance service network.
- Lead on E&D as Chair of both Trusts.
Jagtar’s two day managing diversity course and managing diversity course have been highly acclaimed by many organisations. The Board development training, human rights and the Equality Impact assessment training have been the core courses that have helped to establish Jagtar Singh Associates as one of the best E&D consultancy in this field.

I am National officer for Asian Fire Service Association
I am a member “Black Professionals in the Fire Service”.
I have provided advice and support to a number of public services on diversity issues.
